PROFESIONAL PANEL SESSIONS OVERVIEW


In pursuit of enhancing professionalism, experience sharing, and problem-solving capabilities, the working groups of the International Organization for Substations Digital Development are pleased to announce the Professional Panel Sessions.

Each working group will host dedicated sessions where two of the most experienced professionals from each country will participate in open plenary discussions. These sessions will focus on specific challenges and solutions encountered in the field. OEM experts will also join these sessions purely as professionals, without any commercial affiliations.

This platform offers a unique opportunity for professional learning and networking, allowing participants to benefit from the collective expertise of esteemed professionals across various working groups.

POWER TRANSFORMERS

1.Advanced Transformer Design and Manufacturing Techniques:
Innovative design approaches, manufacturing processes and practices enhance transformer efficiency, reliability, and performance. Transformer repair practices and case studies including onsite repair, factory repair retrofitting refurbishment, and upgradation to meet evolving grid requirements and enhance performance and challenges connected to transformer repairs. Technologies for improving transformer efficiency, reducing losses, and optimizing energy conservation in power distribution networks. Enhancing transformer reliability and resilience against various operational challenges, including extreme weather events, overloading, and grid disturbances, transformer self-diagnosis (the new Smart Transformers and digital twins -integration of smart technologies).
2.Transformer asset management, advanced diagnosis and lifetime extension strategies:
Advanced diagnostic testing for power transformers (sate studies). Contingency plans and Strategies for extending the lifespan of transformers through effective maintenance, diagnostics, and condition monitoring techniques, case stories. Advancements in transformer health monitoring including online monitoring, diagnostics, and prognostics for early fault detection and prevention including fault detection algorithms, as well as safety measures.

SUBSTATION

1.Advanced Diagnostics and Health diagnostics on Instrument Transformers:
Advancements in diagnostic tools, techniques, and methodologies for assessing the health, condition, and performance of instrument transformers.
2.Surge Arrester Performance and Reliability:
Experiences related to surge arrester performance, reliability, and aging management, including advancements in insulation materials, monitoring techniques, and grid protection strategies.
3.Strategies for Substation Batteries:
Experiences and lessons learned in enhancing the reliability and resilience of substation battery systems through redundancy schemes, preventive maintenance, and backup power strategies.
4.Advanced Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance:
Advanced condition monitoring, predictive maintenance and latest advancements in condition monitoring techniques, predictive analytics, and artificial intelligence applications for early fault detection, diagnosis, and maintenance scheduling of substation assets.
3.Circuit breakers:
Experiences with various types of circuit breakers designs, including vacuum, SF6, and solid-state circuit breakers, Advancements in interruption techniques, reliability, and environmental sustainability. Environmental considerations associated with substation assets, including SF6 emissions, end-of-life disposal, and sustainable practices for minimizing environmental impact and promoting eco-friendly solutions.

ROTATING MACHINES

1.1. Advancements in design, efficiency, control and optimization:
Developments in design, including innovations in materials, winding configurations, and cooling techniques to improve efficiency and performance. Advancements in manufacturing, and machining technologies for enhanced durability, and performance of rotating machinery components. Control systems for rotating machines such as variable speed drives (VSDs) and advanced control systems to enhance the performance, efficiency, and flexibility of rotating machines in industrial processes. Advancements in efficiency for various industrial applications and optimization.
2.Preventive maintenance:
Case stories and technologies in condition monitoring, predictive analytics, and machine learning algorithms and digital twin technologies (in design, operation, and maintenance of rotating machinery), enabling predictive analytics for early fault detection and maintenance optimization of rotating machines. Challenges case stories, practices and solutions related to rotor dynamics, balancing techniques, vibration analysis, PD monitoring and other solutions for improving the reliability, stability, and lifespan of rotating machinery.

HYBRID RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS

1.
WIND FARMS and reliability issues including failure cases testing, health assessment and monitoring. Opportunities in wind turbines technological advancements, Advancements in wind turbine design, materials, and installation and control systems aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing costs.
2.
SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC INNOVATIONS technology, including new materials, improved efficiency, advancements in solar panel manufacturing processes.
3.
PUMPED STORAGE HYDRO as a form of energy storage for balancing intermittent renewable sources, providing grid stability, and optimizing energy dispatch. Case studies or experiences and strategies for optimizing the efficiency and performance of pumped storage hydro facilities, including new turbine designs, control systems, and operational best practices or other emerging energy storage technologies, including compressed air, advanced batteries, supercapacitors, and other storage solutions.
4.
INTEGRATION and SMART GRID TECHNOLOGIES for wind, solar, and pumped storage hydro technologies in hybrid systems to enhance grid stability, flexibility, and overall efficiency including demand response, energy management systems, and grid automation on existing and new systems and forecasting models for wind and solar energy, enabling better planning and management of renewable energy projects.

CABLES AND OVERHEAD LINES

1.
Underground and subsea power cables installation and maintenance challenges including monitoring testing and inspection technologies. Lessons learned case studies and practices in real-world power cable systems and various fault preventive technologies for monitoring and inspecting underground and subsea power cables.
2.
Transmission overhead lines lifecycle management, system stability dynamic lines rating, fault locating practices and predictive maintenance techniques such as drones for inspection, advanced sensors for monitoring, robotics for maintenance tasks. (case stories, new technologies or practices).
3.
Distribution overhead lines maintenance, practices with various systems for fault location, system stability and predictive maintenance techniques such as drones for inspection, advanced sensors for monitoring. (case stories, new technologies or practices).

PROTECTION AND SCADA

1.
Testing practices and lessons learned for commissioning and maintaining substation protection systems, including relay testing, fault simulation, end-to-end testing methodologies and analyzing transient and harmonic phenomena in substation protection systems.
2.
Fault-tolerant and self-healing protection system architectures, including redundancy strategies, automatic reconfiguration schemes, and fault isolation techniques with practices in substation protection coordination and grading, including zone-selective interlocking, time-current coordination, and adaptive coordination schemes.
3.
Innovative fault detection and localization methods for substation protection systems, including traveling wave-based approaches, fault component analysis and monitoring functions integration within substation automation systems, including centralized vs. distributed architectures and interoperability standards.
4.
Latest advancements in protection relay technologies, including digital relays, IEC 61850-compliant devices, adaptive protection schemes and best practices for securing substation protection systems, including network architecture, encryption techniques, and intrusion detection.
5.
Wide-area protection systems (WAPS) for enhancing substation protection and coordination, including synchro phasor technology, system-wide fault detection, and adaptive protection strategies.

INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR SUBSTATIONS DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT

Substation Digital is integrated smart substation maintenance FREE web application for digital HV asset management, risk assessment, inspections management, electrical test management, processing and automated analysis according international standards and records keeping. A wireless maintenance Scada is also integrated in the app capable of connecting more than 1000 existing monitoring devices with alarms distribution . The app also features notification and access management for all elements. Everything can be arranged digitally as existing originally in HV substations.

The features are also available as IOS and Android mobile app. The application functionalities are being divided as electrical tests, monitoring, visual, thermal and corona inspection on a cloud platform or on premises installation . This application allows power and big industrial companies to set up a virtual substation, assign authorizations within the company (staff can have different authorizations similar to the ones they have in maintenance such as: upload electrical tests, analyze tests, change limits, connect monitoring devices, analyze monitoring data, upload visual, thermal or corona status, comments and pictures, arrange meetings, edit inspection lists.
